The mission of SR-22 is to provide a tactical patrol response to suppress both criminal and gang activity in targeted areas of DuPage County
Unit members, who are either gang specialists or tactical officers, select specific areas of criminal/gang activity for intervention using current crime patterns and trends.
The unit also works cooperatively with local law enforcement agencies enabling them to focus on designated areas of trouble in a proactive manner - working to stop crime before it starts.
SR-22 is an outgrowth of the Office's successful gang suppression unit, GS-9, that Sheriff Zaruba started in 1997.
The "SR" stands for Special Response and "22" signifies the state of Illinois' numeric designation for DuPage County.
